A look at getfirstfruits.app

Firstfruits is a free iOS app designed for Christians that converts time spent reading the Bible into credits that unlock access to other apps. The app integrates with Bible apps you already use—such as YouVersion, Logos, Olive Tree, or Dwell—automatically tracking reading time without requiring you to switch applications.

The credit system works on a straightforward exchange: five minutes of Bible reading earns one credit, which unlocks 15 minutes of app access by default. Users can adjust the exchange rate to unlock 20 or 30 minutes per credit. The app includes an 8-credit daily cap with widening thresholds to prevent banking credits for future days, and a manual timer for paper Bible reading or prayer.

Firstfruits operates with complete privacy: it stores everything locally on your device with no account, server, or network requests. It contains no ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases, and does not monitor or report what users read. An emergency unlock feature provides immediate 30-minute access without penalty when genuinely needed.

FAQ

Do I have to switch Bible apps to use Firstfruits?
No. Firstfruits counts time in whichever Bible app you already use—YouVersion, Logos, Olive Tree, Dwell, your denomination's app, or any Bible category app you prefer. The app contains no Scripture of its own and is not trying to replace your reading app.
Is Firstfruits really free, or does the free version have limitations?
Firstfruits is genuinely free with no ads, subscriptions, in-app purchases, or paid tiers. Apple's app listing flag for in-app purchases reads No, which developers cannot fake. Most apps in this category read Yes. There is no business model behind it, so the app's future depends on one person continuing to care.
Does Firstfruits see what I read or report it to anyone?
No. iOS hands the app only an opaque token, not the app name, and reports only that a time threshold was crossed. Firstfruits has no account, server, or network requests, so there is no way anything could be reported to anyone—not to the developer, a spouse, or a pastor.
What if I read a paper Bible instead of using an app?
Use the manual timer inside Firstfruits. Every 5 minutes it runs earns one credit, the same as time in a Bible app. It is designed for paper reading, prayer, and anything else that should count but does not involve a screen.
Is there an Android version of Firstfruits?
No, and there is unlikely to be one. The entire mechanism depends on Apple's Family Controls and DeviceActivity frameworks, which have no Android equivalent that works the same way.
