A look at callfirst.app

CallFirst is a mobile app that gates access to social media behind a verified phone call. When you select which social apps to lock and choose a contact, the app remains locked until you've spent at least 60 seconds on a call with that contact, at which point it unlocks for the rest of the day. The app supports both regular phone calls and WhatsApp calls, and the verification happens on-device without the company ever seeing who you call or what you say.

The app is designed specifically for personal connection rather than productivity or focus management. On Android, it blocks Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter), Threads, Facebook and Snapchat, with the ability to choose which subset to lock. On iPhone, users can select any apps they want. The Free tier allows one contact and one daily unlock, while paid tiers add multiple contacts and custom scheduling options.

CallFirst is built by AI PM Services LTD, a UK-registered technology company run by founder Ben Freeman. The app is currently live with Android launching in Brazil in September 2026, followed by iOS.

FAQ

What does CallFirst actually do?
CallFirst sits between you and the social apps you've chosen to block. When you tap on one, CallFirst takes over the screen. The only way through is a 60-second or longer phone call. After the call, your apps unlock for the rest of the day.
Which apps does CallFirst block?
On Android, CallFirst blocks major social apps including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter), Threads, Facebook and Snapchat, and you decide which subset to lock. On iPhone, you can choose whichever apps you want.
Does the call have to be on the regular phone line?
No. CallFirst supports both regular phone calls and WhatsApp calls.
What happens if the person you want to call doesn't pick up?
Your apps stay blocked. CallFirst measures how long you're away from the app after you tap to call—if it's 60 seconds or more, you're asked to confirm you called, but if your person doesn't pick up, you can call someone else or leave the apps blocked for the day with no timer to wait out.
What does CallFirst see when you make a call?
Almost nothing. The contact you picked stays on your device and is never synced to servers. CallFirst only measures your time away from the app locally, and logs attempts anonymously—the time, whether you used WhatsApp or phone, and duration away—but never which contact you actually called.
