Overview

A look at dif.sh
dif.sh is a developer-first platform for managing feature flags and A/B tests directly within your code repository. Experiments and flags are stored as Markdown files in a dif/ folder, versioned in Git, and reviewed through pull requests. The CLI handles all operations from flag creation to test conclusion, generating a typed client for production use and maintaining a surface log of learnings.
The platform supports holdouts, staged rollouts, and conflict detection at build time to prevent test collisions. Teams can declare audience attributes once and target on dimensions like country, plan, or customer status without committing customer data. Git serves as both the audit log and approval workflow.
Dif Cloud is the optional hosted layer providing live experiment metrics, confidence intervals, and PR-based conclusions. The CLI and SDK are free and open; Cloud billing starts at $50/month for 1 million events with unlimited seats, charging only for events rather than team size.

FAQ
- Do I need Cloud to use dif?
- No. The dif CLI and SDK are free and open, running experiments directly from your repository. Dif Cloud is an optional hosted layer for live pulse, metrics catalog, and PR write-back functionality.
- What counts as an event for billing purposes?
- Two writes count as events: each exposure the SDK records and each result tracked via dif.track(). Deduped retries and rejected payloads do not count. A batch bills per row, not per request.
- What happens if I exceed my Cloud plan allowance?
- Events above the included 1 million are metered at $0.02 per 1,000 events. Your spend cap acts as a hard ceiling; at the cap, ingest returns 429 and events shed so the bill never exceeds your set limit.
- Do you charge per seat or team member?
- No. Both Pro and Enterprise plans include unlimited seats. You can invite every engineer, PM, and analyst without affecting the price, which is based on events only.
- Do my dashboards break when raw events age out?
- No. Raw events age out after 30 or 90 days depending on the plan, but aggregated results, experiment analysis, and history are kept forever, so dashboards and numbers remain available.
