Overview

A look at punchy.live
Punchy is a time-tracking system designed for household employers and their workers. It runs as a web-based kiosk on a tablet or phone at home, where workers tap a personal PIN and press Punch In or Punch Out. All punches appear automatically in the employer's dashboard, with hours totaled for easy reference at payday. The system records no GPS data, requires no app installation, and collects minimal personal information—workers need only a PIN and name. Employers can export time logs as CSV files, mark hours as paid, add notes for workers, and manage up to 10 people per account. The service is free with no ads, designed to replace spreadsheets and notebooks while keeping both sides' trust intact through a shared, transparent record.

FAQ
- Do I need a spare tablet for Punchy?
- No. Any device with a web browser, an internet connection, and a built-in kiosk feature works, such as an old phone, Chromebook, or laptop. A tablet is preferred because touchscreens are convenient, but you should enable your device's built-in kiosk feature (Guided Access on Apple, app pinning on Android) to lock the screen to Punchy.
- Why is Punchy free?
- Punchy exists because its builder needed it for his own household. It is deliberately small and cheap to run, making free sustainable at household scale. The service is not an advertising or data business, and the only measurement is anonymous, cookie-free usage stats. Your data is never sold or shared.
- How private is Punchy for the people I track?
- Punchy collects minimal information from workers. They provide no email, phone number, account, app, or GPS data—only a PIN and a name (which can be initials or a nickname). The kiosk carries no analytics and workers see only their own record.
- Does Punchy do payroll or taxes?
- No. Punchy records hours only; it never holds or moves money and files nothing. Pay figures you enter are your own record. However, the IRS expects household employers to keep records of hours worked and wages paid, and a punch log serves as that kind of record.
- What happens to my data if I stop using Punchy?
- You can export your time logs as a CSV file anytime. When you delete your account, it and everything in it are permanently erased through an email-confirmed flow.
