ntail
Serverless Kafka with no extra public internet fees, 99.9% uptime SLA and pay-as-you-go pricing
A serverless Kafka platform with no bandwidth charges, built by engineers with 15+ years of Kafka production experience.
Overview

A look at ntail.io
ntail is a serverless Kafka platform that eliminates public internet data transfer charges entirely. Clusters are virtual with no brokers to size or partitions to plan, scaling in under a minute with a 99.9% uptime SLA. Pricing is based only on data throughput and storage, with no cluster fees or hidden charges. The platform meters compressed bytes rather than raw data, supports unlimited retention, and integrates with existing Kafka tools. Built and operated by Factual Tech AB, a Swedish company running its own European infrastructure with GDPR compliance and encryption by default.

FAQ
- What does serverless Kafka actually mean?
- A serverless Kafka cluster on ntail is virtual with no brokers to name, no partitions to plan, and no capacity to reserve. You describe what you need and it goes live in seconds as a Kafka endpoint your existing clients connect to immediately. Every cluster runs against a throughput quota, so unexpected bursts hit a ceiling rather than your invoice, and higher limits are available on request within minutes.
- How can ntail be so much cheaper than other managed Kafka services?
- Three reasons: ntail doesn't run on expensive public cloud infrastructure with hyperscaler margins, it built its own Kafka-compatible platform engineered for cost with no duplicate payments or excess provisioning, and it doesn't resell bandwidth or charge for public internet data transfer, which is usually the largest invoice line.
- Do you really charge nothing for public internet traffic?
- Yes. Data in and data out are billed at per-MiB/s rates because that's your streaming throughput metered like anywhere else. What is free is the separate toll most providers charge for moving bytes across the public internet (labeled ingress and egress elsewhere). On ntail that line is zero at any volume and there is no fair-use asterisk or surprise overage.
- What uptime SLA does ntail guarantee?
- Production clusters carry a contractual 99.9% monthly uptime SLA—under 44 minutes of downtime a month—with service credits if ntail misses it. Clusters span independent failure domains and a lost node is replaced in seconds rather than rebuilt over hours.
- Is data in and data out metered compressed or uncompressed?
- Compressed. We meter the compressed bytes as they arrive on the wire, not the raw size of your records, so the compression your producers already do works in your favour rather than ours. For typical JSON or Avro payloads with a standard codec that is commonly three to five times less than the uncompressed volume, which means the MiB/s you are billed for is usually smaller than the number your application thinks it is sending. Storage is metered the same way.
