A look at thoreaubasic.com

Thoreau BASIC is a free 64-bit BASIC interpreter that combines classic line-numbered BASIC syntax with modern capabilities. It runs on Windows x64 and can boot directly on x64 machines as a UEFI application without an operating system.

The interpreter includes native x64 JIT compilation, 24-bit graphics, sprites, mouse input, TCP/IP and HTTP networking, and a complete GM/GS wavetable synthesizer. It supports playback of MIDI, WAV, FLAC and Opus files, as well as complex, quaternion and octonion mathematical values.

Programs can be packaged as standalone Windows EXE files or bootable EFI applications. The same BASIC language and runtime work identically on Windows and bare-metal UEFI, making it possible to write applications that run in both environments. Version 3.2 added file browsers and menus as ordinary BASIC commands, state checkpointing, and improved floating-point and complex arithmetic.
