An app that helps people report scam voicemail callback numbers to carriers without sharing their personal email.

Overview

A look at numban.com

NumBan helps identify and report scam callback numbers extracted from voicemail. Users share a voicemail from their iPhone's Phone app, and NumBan transcribes the audio to extract the callback number. The app then prepares and files a verified complaint with the carrier that hosts the number, while keeping the user's personal contact information private. NumBan re-checks reported numbers weekly to track when they become disconnected, confirming a "kill" when the number is no longer routable after abuse complaints are filed. Confirmed kills are ranked on a public leaderboard.

FAQ

What is NumBan?
NumBan helps identify and report scam callback numbers. Users share a voicemail from their Phone app, check the callback details, and follow reported numbers for status changes. Confirmed kills rank them on a leaderboard.
What happens when I report a number?
NumBan pulls the callback number from the voicemail and reports it to the carrier. The user's personal email is never included. NumBan then checks the number weekly and notifies the user when it becomes disconnected.
What is a kill?
A kill is confirmed when a reported callback number becomes disconnected or is no longer routable after abuse complaints are filed. NumBan re-checks weekly and counts confirmed kills on the leaderboard.
Is my voicemail audio shared publicly?
No. Voicemail audio, screenshots, and recognized screenshot text are kept as private report data and are not published. Public number pages show only aggregate, redacted details such as report counts, carrier information, and scam type.
How does NumBan verify scam numbers?
NumBan transcribes the shared voicemail audio on its servers and extracts possible callback numbers. You can share an uncropped screenshot after the audio; NumBan attaches it to a matching voicemail, or you choose the voicemail in the app. A screenshot is not filed as its own report. If the callback number is not clear, you confirm it before it is reported.
